Inside Kumankaya
The creators of Kumankaya are Remi and Ashley Delaune, two benevolent curanderos who radiate great compassion, grace, and wisdom.
In an earlier chapter of life, Remi was a Christian monk for 20 years, living largely in silence in France. During that time he earned two PhDs in Theology and Philosophy, reading thousands of books on the nature of reality.
12 years ago, Remi was summoned to the medicine path, and spent some ~4.5 years living mostly in isolation in the Peruvian jungle, learning from a Shipibo master, drinking ayahuasca and dieting master plants. A shaman we know described Remi as “the most advanced Western shaman I have ever encountered.”

Eric Brown
LEAD FACILITATOR.
Eric Brown is the Director of Apotheosis, a Wilderness First Responder, martial artist, and writer.
Previously, he created the experiential foundations for Mindbloom–designing the therapeutic programs, content, session audio, and guide protocols for the largest psychedelic therapy company in the world, used in over 650k+ medicine sessions.
He’s deeply interested in Zen, plant medicine, Bitcoin, and holistic self-mastery.
Asha urban
LEAD FACILITATOR.
Asha Urban is a Certified Addiction Recovery and Psychedelic Integration Coach, Certified Women’s Guidance Facilitator, and PhD candidate in Integral and Transpersonal Psychology at CIIS. She currently serves as a Guide Team Lead at Mindbloom, a national ketamine therapy company, where she mentors a team of integration coaches. Through her private practice, Sadhana Integration, Asha works with clients in both group and 1:1 settings, with a focus on somatics, embodied healing, and expanded states of consciousness.
Nic Stubbs
RETREAT DIRECTOR.
Nic is a transformational breathwork practitioner with extensive experience in the space of healing through altered states of consciousness and sacred plant medicine journeys.
He is the co-founder of The Psychedelic Society of South Africa and a core member on the HighExistence team. He has a strong intuition and is a palpably safe space for all those around him. His main area of excitement and expertise is in supporting others to connect with their life’s calling, and clearing out anything and everything that stands in the way of it.
Remi & Ashley Delaune
OWNERS & CURANDEROS.
Remi is a true shaman who has walked the medicine path for 12+ years, spending 4.5 years in isolation dieting master plants. His lineage is the Peruvian Shipibo tradition. Earlier in life, he was a monk for 20 years and a Doctor of Philosophy who read thousands of books on metaphysics. His gorgeous icaro songs have miraculous healing power.
Ashley has been working with the medicine since 2016, when her journey led her to Nihue Rao Centro. She began apprenticing under Ricardo Amaringo the following year and has now accumulated over 2 years of dieting experience. In 2018, she and her husband co-created Kumankaya Healing Center. Ashley is a certified yoga and meditation teacher.

Commonly, ayahuasca is a medicinal admixture made by preparing a combination of the ayahuasca vine with the leaves of the chacruna plant. These work symbiotically to enable the natural NN, DMT of the chacruna leaves to become orally active. It is a shamanic healing tool that can bring about transformative healing experiences, mystical/spiritual moments, and visionary insights.

If ayahuasca is the general doctor, the master plants are the specialists. Each master plant is a surgeon in their given domain. Marosa is a master plant with a strong feminine spirit, focused on emotional trauma healing, spiritual connection, love, and emotional expression. You take the master plant alongside the included 6 ayahuasca ceremonies.

We have a maximum capacity of 12 participants per retreat. There are 2-3 Apotheosis facilitators, plus the 4-5 members of Kumankaya’s team. That’s ~1 facilitator for every 2 participants, an unmatched ratio in this work.

All accommodations at Kumankaya are shared. There are 2 people per room, matched by biological sex. We match everyone based on shared history, compatibility, and more.

Apotheosis is far more than a 1-week medicine retreat. Not only do we include a comprehensive 2-week preparation and 3-week integration program for free, but we have crafted a core curriculum focused on empowering individuals to create their own meaning structures, step into local leadership in their lives at home, and embrace guardianship and stewardship of the natural world. Rooted in ancient lineage and modern science, we take a stand, and move participants toward a deeper level of wisdom, purpose, and connection with the living cosmos. Our aims of community leadership, nature guardianship, and comprehensive toolkits are unique to us and are not offered at all, nor at this level, by other retreat organizations or centers.

Kumankaya has never had a serious incident occur on their property—and we consider it very safe so long as you remain mindful and stay on the paths. That being said, we are going into the Mayan jungles of Mexico, ~2 hours outside of Tulum. There are rare venomous snakes in the surrounding area that can potentially be fatal. There are scorpions and tarantulas present but these are not dangerous. Our team has Wilderness First Responder training, and comprehensive emergency protocols. This is the jungle, and we are in the home of a dynamic living ecosystem.

Our facilitators decide their level of participation in ceremony, it is neither required nor forbidden. The ceremonies are held and conducted by the Kumankaya team—they have ~4 team members present in each ceremony We are professionals, and it is important to our work and philosophy that we create a group ritual container to provide the greatest healing and transformation possible. When our facilitators receive medicine, it can greatly amplify the tribe’s cohesion, closeness, and sense of passing through a shared initiation.

Ensure that you provide as much detail as possible about your circumstances in the medical history section of your application. Including information like medications, dosage, and pertinent medical history. We assess these on a case-by-case basis.

In some traditions, the first 3 days of a cycle can play a factor in participating in the ceremony, or the level of medicine received. There are often solutions that can be found. If this is a concern, feel free to message us and we’ll work together to accommodate.
